Electrical problem
1996 Chevy Astro 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 210000 miles

I had a problem, originally, with the fuel pump. after replacing it, upon trying to start the car (just turned the ignition to the point where the fuel pump should engage, and the lights on the dash turn on) and I heard a "click" noise, and all the electricity in the whole car shut down. I checked the relay switches and fuses and they dont seem burnt or otherwise broken, but still no electricity. could there have been a short or an overload somewhere?

Inspect and test the fusible link/s

can you be more specific? ive kind of half tested the fuses/relays in the fuse box myself, but im not sure if i tested them correctly. any help would be greatly appreciated

Its the small thinner wire with the battery cable at the starter with a barrel looking shape-use a test lite probe it before and after the fusible link/s you should have power on both side

I got the electricty to go back on, and now the car will start to crank, but it won't turn over and actually turn on.It's almost as if the fuel pump isnt pumpng, but the pump is brand new. could the sending unit be broken or cold it be a problem with electricity getting to the pump? is there a way I could check that? i really appreciate the help so far

Do you hear the fuel pump when you turn key to run?

No i didnt hear the fuel pump. that's why I'm wondering if tis a problem with powering it or whatever it could be.

Power the fuel pump direct from the battery if it comes on-check the fuse and fuel pump relay if okay could be the computer control of the relay circuit.
