Air Conditioning problem
2005 Buick Rendezvous 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 69565 miles

I have a Buick Rendezvous with a little under 70,000 miles on it. During the summer the AC started to act up and I took it to the dealer. I was told I needed to get the blower replaced. Due to some financial problems I was not able to get it fixed but for some reason it started to work a day or so later. It worked for a few weeks and then it stopped working.

Now in we are in the beginnings of winter and I have yet to get it fixed but something weird happened when my son kicked a few times under the glove compartment (the fuse box is in there); heat started blowing out! I wonder if it's just a fuse problem rather than having to have the blower replaced.

When you say the AC was acting up….everything basically was working fine other than you had no inside, blower…..no speeds at all…..you would turn the fan switch to low or high and nothing. Is this correct?

Then it started working again. Now – when you select a fan speed you again, get nothing….no low, medium or high speed fan. Your son gave it a swift kick…and presto….now you are getting fan air again….low, medium, or high….and the only reason it was blowing hot air is because you had hot air selected. Correct?

Now your question is – is this a fuse or the blower?

To assist you better please answer the above but also is your AC/heat a manual or automatic system?

Also, you engine, is it a 3.4L VIN E or a 3.6L VIN 7? The VIN is the 8th digit of your VIN.

Also, please do me a favor, please go to Auto Zone (AZ) or O’Reilly’s (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don’t get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery, alternator and starter.

Everything in the car was working except for the AC. When I turned on the AC nothing would happen. I would move the fan speed from low to high but nothing would happen. No noise. The after taking to the dealer it worked fine for a while. I would be getting cool air in all the speeds.

It then stopped working again. As I mentioned earlier, when I tried turn my heat on ...nothing happened. No heat coming out. No noise. I had turned it on because leaving on the highest setting and on defrost ...my windows don't fog up .

But then my son was kicking as he sat in the front seat. He kicked really hard underneath the glove compartment and then the hot air started coming out of the vents!

I have an automatic transmission. One thing I have noticed is that the car temperature almost gets close to hot and then my car stalls and dies out.


I will take the car to Auto Zone and do want you have asked.

Okay……..now I have a bigger concern…..the car getting hot………you don’t want to damage your engine……Lord willing you haven’t.

So….let’s change directions for a moment.

Do you have anti-freeze in the radiator? Please check. Once the cap is off it is low, then turn the car on, heater on (don’t worry about the blower) and fill as required.

Next – with the car off – look at your radiator cooling fans. Make sure the AC is off. Start the car and have someone turn the AC on high…..did both of the radiator cooling fans come on?

Have you ever had your radiator system flushed? Have you ever changed your thermostat?

Next, please don’t forget to let me know if your engine, is it a 3.4L VIN E or a 3.6L VIN 7? The VIN is the 8th digit of your VIN.

Also, on your AC/Heat…is your air-condition/heater system a manual system or is it the automatic system?

Make sure you check your fluid level before you drive to AZ…we don’t want your car to overheat and get damaged.
