Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
2002 BMW X5 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 160000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My car started to make ticking noises a month or so ago in the front driver side tire area. It was usually when i turned to the right. Receintly the noise started to get worse and also started to make a louder ticking and almost a grinding noise when i turned. Sounds like something is very loose and banging on other parts when i turn. I now can hear the noise while just driving forward and have since stopped driving the car until i can pay to fix it.
I took the car to my mechanic and he said that the front axle was gone and needed to be replaced. I do agree that something is seriously wrong with the front of the car, but i was suprised to hear that i needed to replace the front axle. They also said it was going to cost 1500.

PLease let me know what you think...

Thank you
glen

1500 to replace an axle seems high to me. Did they break down the costs and what are they?
