Drive Train Axles Bearings problem

Do I have to use BMW parts to replace my CV joints or half shafts as my mechanic is calling them and bmw parts to replace my brake pads and rotors. I feel like I am getting hosed.

Why do you feel like you are getting hosed? Is the price an issue? There are after market suppliers that you can save $ with, although the profit margin is different for your "technician"

I have an BMW X5 2002, I am getting both CV Joints replace, back brakes with pads and rotors and my total cost is $1975.02. The technician informed me that the 2 CV joints were 499 each, because he could not find anything but BMW parts. I feel like the price is a little steep and I could get regular parts. 1. Does this price seem high to you
2. Will it make that big of a difference if I can get non BMW parts?

Sites include European auto source, BMWpartsonly.com, Realoem.com, check these out and it might give you an idea of what the parts cost online. $1,975 seems a bit high to me. $250 is what the halfshafts cost online at BMWpartsonly. The model for your X5 is E53 in case you did not know.
