hi there i have a bmw e46 face lift model with a n42 engine it has oil in the water so i think that the head gasket has blown is this common and how much do you think it will cost to repair

BMW reports that the time required for the head to come off and go back on to be 11 hours. There is also the cost of the gasket set, head bolts, coolant, oil and filter, and what consumables that might be required. I would also like to point out that there is a possibility that the engine might have a cracked casting. This could be due to an over heating of the engine, if that has occurred. You must be outside of the North American market because we don't get the N42 motor in the E-46 bodystyle on this side of the pond.
