2001 Buick Lesabre 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 71000 miles

my gas gauge was on 1/4 tank and the more I drove
it went to almost 1/2 tank. Thinking something was
wrong I stopped to fill up and it took 18 gallons. Full capacity is 18.5. also the car has a digital read out telling how many miles to empty and this keeps changing as I drive, often with a higher reading than before. this just started and I need to leave on a 550 mile trip this weekend.
