Engine Performance problem

My Audi A6 Quattro doesn't start as it should. it turns
over for a period of time like it's not getting gas, The check engine light is on and the code that is coming up is PO 441. It says Evaporative Emission, system incorrect, purge flow.
I reset the light and the car started fine until it sit in the hot sun for about and hour while I was having lunch. It started the same problem just turning over for several seconds before starting. When it does start is is somewhat sluggish. It always starts eventually.
I took it to a mechanic and he thought it could be the Mass Air Flow Sensor. He said he wasn't sure, the part is pretty expensive and I don't want to order one if I'm not pretty sure it will solve the problem
Does this sound like something that could be caused by that sensor?

Hi Dennis,

Seems the problem is more likely to be a fuel problem. The MAF can cause problem with starting but the idling would not be good too.

I would suggest checking the fuel pressure.
