Engine Mechanical problem

My "Service Engine Soon" light has been on for the past month or so. Just last week, the cruise control stopped working all of a sudden. The cruise had worked just fine up to the point it stopped working. I had the cruise on and going about 70mph, all of a sudden it shut off and now won't engage. The light comes on for the cruise but nothing else.
Just yesterday the car shook violently as I started it, this lasted 30 seconds and went away, the car drove fine afterwards. While shaking, the "Service Engine Soon" light was flashing. Please help.
