Transmission problem

Hi I have a 1996 buick regal with a 3.1 l v6. sometimes when you are in drive the car shakes like it is shifting out of gear.this was my mothers car. months ago she took it to a repair shop.the mechanic took out the at modulator cleaned it and reinstalled it,this worked for a while however it is starting to do the same thing again.should i replace the modulator?where is it located on the trransmission thank you. vance vincent
