Engine Mechanical problem

The car occasionally billows blue smoke on startup after being driven and parked a few hours. I plan to replace valve stem seals using the "rope trick." The Felpro set I bought are positive seals for intake and exhaust. Are they OEM for this engine, as opposed to O-rings and umbrellas? If not, are they a good idea? I can imagine how sealing the stems *too* well might cause greater guide wear.
