Transmission problem
1992 BMW 525 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 240,00 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My '92 525i was fine shifting...never had any problems. I stopped the car yesterdat to ck the mail and the shift lever would move. After playing with it for a while I got it to shift but it it acted as if the linkage was screwed up. Shifting into park was very difficult but I got it in and now I cant get it out of park. Any suggestions you have would be helpful! Is this a common problem???

The cable that goes from the shifter assembly to the ignition lock assembly at the steering column might be loose at the ignition lock. It prevents gear selection with the key removed. Lower the under dash below the steering wheel and look for a cable that screws in to the ignition lock and see if it is in need of tightening.
