Engine Performance problem

Hello, I've had this problem ever since I had the engine replaced (for about 6 months now). The car will run fine at startup and for a little while, but if I drive around for about 15min + it will start to misfire quite a bit. It misses at idle (will drop RPM, then shoot back up), especially while accelerating (more so at lower speeds). The car runs fine if I'm going at a constant speed, or if I have cruise control on. I don't have a scanner to check the codes, and I'm hesitant on paying the 70$ to have a mechanic do it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
