Electrical problem

car sumtimes starts and sometimes doesn't sounds like its not getting gas and once it does start its sputters and jerks abit and when i give it gas it will only go 2000-2500 rmps then die otu and when i let off the gas it almost dies but then picks up again the will eventually die out. i just got the fuel pump changed about a 2 months ago. and the check engine light is on. and when i try to drive it, it usally dies out or to keep it moving i have to clutch in clutch out keep doing that so what could it be hope you guys can help me out thanks.
