Engine Cooling problem
1995 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 89000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My Grand Prix is overheating. I replaced the thermostat and the coolant sensor. The relays and the fans checked out ok. The relays won't trip to power the fans when the car gets hot. At the relay terminals i have 12vdc to the coil side and for the fan power. The wire from the ecm shows 600 ohms to ground.
I was able to take the cover off the relay and manually turned the fans on.
Whats stopping the fan from being turned on by the ecm?

you need to install a scan tool and read the ecm coolant temperature and make sure its reading correctly. try unplugging the coolant temp sensor located on the intake manifold by the thermostat housing(it has a yellow and brown wire going to it) and see if it will turn on

I have the same problem with my 95 GP SE. V6 3.1. The freon leaked out of the a/c and since then, the fans won't turn on. The last time they turned on was last summer when I had the a/c recharged. Is there a way to get them to work without having a/c charged?
