Engine Mechanical problem

to start with, i never aligned the marks before i went ahead to remove the belt.
but i tougth that if i didn't move anything i was goint to be able to install the new belt back and no problems.
well i did install the new belt and try to rotate the crank to see that the marks lign up and they don't,
also when turning the crank clockwise i can hear something kind of touching on the right side of the bank.
my question to you is,
should i remove the belt and rotate the marks to lign up and if i need to do this how do i know when the cylinder 1 is up or tdc as you may call it?

I will need to know which engine is fitted the 3 or 3.5 Liter. You are in a precarious position as any excessive pressure may bend a valve. To align all the timing marks will take great skill and a careful hand as you now have to align all the marks with out doing any damage. Did you stop when you felt the pressure or go past it? If you went past the hard point, you may of already bent a valve. I feel you should get a mechanic to look at this for you, as i don't want to see you get in to deep.
