Engine Performance problem
1995 Ford Thunderbird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 125000 miles

Hello,

I have a 1995 T-Bird with 4.6L V8 with approx. 125K miles. The original problem was that the idle was very erratic, fluctuating from 500 RPM to 1500 RPM without touching the gas pedal. Idle improved once the car was warmed up but there were still intermittent jumps in idle speed. I checked the fuel pressure and it was low around 20 lbs. at the rail. Spec says 35 to 40 lbs. So I first replaced the fuel filter to no avail followed by the fuel pump. Pressure is now steady at 32 lbs.

I also noticed a vacuum leak at the rear of the intake manifold and replaced a vacuum tee. Cleaned the EGR valve & throttle body plate, changed all the gaskets also with no noticeable improvement.
