Engine Performance problem
1995 Ford Ranger 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 118000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have been the owner for the last 30,000 miles. There have been no issues until lately. Was wondering if there is a common issue with my truck to diagnose my NO-Start condition once I get somewhere. If I wait 20 minutes it will start and be ok until I get tothe next destination. But, will not start again. Within the last 6 months I noticed that if I stalled the engine it would have problems firing up without a wait of a minute or two. The engine always cranks normally so it is not the battery. Can I get what is wrong using a code reader? What if it is fuel related does the code reader work with that too? What is the checklist?
Jeff

i also have a 95 ranger and had the same thing happen to me.tried everything to fix it.then after a year i called a parts place where they do repairs also and told me to come down and they'll show me what it is.so i did and boy did i feel stupid.it was so simple.under the hood in the fuse box there are relays and fuses.there's a relay in there called fuel relay switch.that's it.i never had a problem after that.it's been 7 years and still going strong.you have the big 4 cyl with eight plugs?i do.but it's still the relay.cheap fix.

Hi Mjj1952: Thanks for the tip! I did some reading in the car manual and identified the fuel pump relay location and tried swapping the relay with another similar relay in the fuse panel. The issue did move with the relay so I bought a new one. The new relay was only $7.50 and no more problems! The tell tail signal was that there was no 3 seconds of "buzz" sound from the fuel pump after turning the key to "on". After replacing the relay, I hear it every time. Thanks again. That was a whole lot easier and cheaper than replacing the fuel pump!
Case closed!
