Engine Performance problem
1995 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 170,oo miles
Had it checked and we were told to replace the fuel pump, the spark plugs and the spark plug wires. Did all that and still have the raw gasoline odor, rough idle, keeping it running when at a stop sign or light. If left in 4th gear, runs pretty smoothly, not great. But, if you put it into 5th, it doesn't want to run at all and you have to put it back into 4th or 3rd to get up any speed. The further you go - like say l5 miles, the worse it runs. Has died a couple of times and then very hard to get started again. Also, goes through gas like water. You put in 5-6 gallons, and it is gone after going just a short distance. We also added some stuff that is supposed to clean out you electronic fuel system (?). Any help would be appreciated. I would love to donate, but we are on a very limited income and it shorted us just to buy the things we bought. |
