1995 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1995 Chevy lumina with a v6 and 146000 miles. last week i started it, the car started sputtering and died sounding like it wasnt getting enough gas. i started it again, drove it to the gas station and it sputtered a little on the way there. my car did the same thing when i started it at the gas station and drove it home. when i arrived back home the i turned it off and the car would sound like it would start but then it would just keep dieing even if i gave it gas. i went on vacation for a week and came back and now my car seems to run fine. what do you think the problem was, and do you think the problem will reoccur?
