Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 112K miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a car manual and it looks simple enough but the manual is telling me to get a fuel system gage with a bleeder valve and hook it into a fuel system port to bleed off the pressure from the system.

.....??????? ... That sounds awfully complicated and pointless just to replace a gas filter, but this is the first time I'm working ont this Chevy V6 3.1L.

I want to open the gas cap to take out the pressure in the tank and then change the filter and let it blow out what little pressure there is. I can catch the gas in a rag or small container if there is going to be that much and replace the filter. I've done that on other cars and it worked no-sweat.

But that car was a 4 cylinder dodge shadow and I checked with a mechanic I knew then and he told me yeah do it no problem.

My question is will that work on this Chevy? Will the car start once I'm done or not? Will I blow myself up (LOL)?

Thanks much

Tom

The pressure is not that great. I've done it often without relieving the pressure. Just be aware that it may spew slightly when you first open the line and have a pan and rags ready.
