Electrical problem

I have a unique Electrical challenge. While driving the instrument cluster and all gauges, including computer control will become disabled. The Engine will continue run normally. However, no dash functions are manipulations can be performed during the outage. Also, during the outage, the airconditioner will shut down and the fan will engage on high heat. This will continue for about 15-20 minutes...sometimes longer. Shuting down and restrarting the Engine doesn't fix the problem. Eventually, the system will reset and all functions return to normal...until the next outage, which is random. My local Cadillac Deal recommend replacing the computer and cluster. There must be a simpler fix... Any thoughts on this...?
