Engine Mechanical problem

my car wont start, it will turn over put thats it. i was told that cleaning my spark plugs would help and it would but now its not. my friend looked at it when it started this before and he took out the air filter and it started up...my air filter isnt clogged though...he checked that. now that wont even work. please help!!
