Engine Performance problem

I recently decide to pull out my old highschool truck and start fiddling with it.. I don't really know anything about automotive repair.. but before I shelfed the Truck I changed the spark plugs, and cables ... It ran really poorly erratic idle, poor gas mileage, rich black exhaust.

anyway I recent did a bunch of research and found out it could be my MAP sensor well I pulled the old one off and good a new one ordered .. problem is I pulled another vaccum tube off in the process I put the new on in but not sure if the vacuum tube from the back of the carb goes in it or the front of the carb goes in it..

I went with the one in the front cuz the tube was shorter it makes the check engine light go off BUT after I drove it for 5mins the check engine light comes back on... but I did notice a nicer idle not sure about milage yet afraid to drive it more
