Noises problem

when ever I close my power windows I get a very loud and a uniformly paced click or snapping sound. The window also has problems going up especially when there is about an inch to go at the top. I assume it has something to do with the motor but before I pull my door apart I was hoping for a more precise course of action. Also is this something I can do in an afternoon without specialized tools?
