Air Conditioning problem
1994 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
i arched a hole in my manifold hose (while truck was turned off) all freon leaked out of the hose. i made sure ac was off before starting the truck. i took it to a repair shop in town and the replaced the manifold hoses (high and low) and replaced the freon. about a block or 2 after leaving shop there was a squeel ac quit working and compressor was smoking they said clutch was old and seperated. i was told by my dad that it happened because they didnt change the orifis tube (which got contaminated when i arched a hole in the metal hose) could not replacing that filter cause the compressor to freeze up and burn out the clutch? any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi jjenkins9731,

If the compressor is not seized and only the clutch is damaged, it is not the problem of the filter.

The arching could have damaged the coils. Did you remove the battery negative terminal when woking on it?

Hi jjenkins9731,

Nevermind about that now.

Test if the compressor is seized by turning the centre of the clutch centre plate. If it turns without much force then only the clutch is faulty so is not related to the pipe changes.
