Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 320000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
The car was sitting for about a year. Initially the car would not start or even have any lights on. I replaced the Main fuse located under the hood and replaced the battery. Then the car started with no problem. After full service oil change and full tank of gas we drove for about 70 miles when the car died. First the RPM guage failed then the Battery light turned on in the console. After checking the items that I had installed, jumper cables were used and the car started right up. After a few miles the car died again. I am thinking its the cable from the battery to the alternator or am I looking in the wrong place. The alternator was tested with a multimeter and showed 14 V.

I have replaced both battery cables and regrounded the negative onto the frame. would there be any reprocussions if i were to connect the alternator directly to the battery. Currenty the altenator is connected thru the main fuse box located under the hood.

You can do that with no problem
only make sure you install a fuse in the circuit
