Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 145000 miles

My son has a 1994 Intrepid. He recently checked the oil and thought it was low. After adding a quart and driving it the check engine light is now light. It did not flash, just lit. When he rechecked the oil it was about 1/4 inch over the full mark on the dipstick.
So, could the check engine light be illuminated because of excessive oil? Could further damage be done to the engine if he drives with too much oil?
