Engine Cooling problem

I have noticed that after the engine reaches operating temp, if i then shut off the engine, that some of the time coolant comes out of the overflow tube. The engine does not overheat,but does seem to run a little warmer than in the past. Now the "Check Engine" light comes on, but all fluid levels are normal and oil pressure & coolant temp appear normal. Has anybody experienced this? What should i look for?

as for the coolant check radiator cap

I replaced the radiator cap as per your suggestion,and also the thermostat(figured it couldn't hurt! it was only $8.99 at auto zone). The check engine light no longer comes on. I also noticed that the engine reaches operating temp much sooner than it used to(it always took a long time to warm up.)
Who knew that these two simple items would cure so many little problems!
So thank you again for pointing me in the right direction!(also for letting me know how to retrieve the ecm codes)!

you need to have the codes read
cycle key on off on off on
check engine will blink the codes for you (** * =21) and so on
