Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Buick Park Avenue 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 250000 miles

I have recently aquired a 1994 Buick Park Avenue with some very high miles. The car starts and runs fine for about 5 seconds then dies (like it's startved for fuel). Could this be something as simple as a plugged fuel filter? I thought I would start with this and if you fine people have any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I also need to change out the water pump but thats a topic for another day.
