1994 Acura Integra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 233000 miles

Hi There,

Okay this is sort of hard and I don't know how to put it all in writing but here it goes (it's going be a little long).

I have a 1994 Acura Integra LS. This car was really good and when I bought it. However, there was a dent in the gas tank so I had to replace it because the indicator wouldn't give me the accurate rating because the dent was exactly where the indicator was. Anyway, the problem with this car is pulling and starting when it's below half mark on the gas indicator. For some reason when I press on the gas peddle this car doesn't pull as fast as it should. Also, when I'm driving I noticed that when I go over 80Khm this car starts shaking and feels like it wants to blow up. I think I do have a problem with transmission but I don't know if this is what's causing it. Ever since I changed the gas tank I've had a problem where the indicator on the gas tank is below half it takes a few tries before the car starts, I could hear the engine turn over a couple of times but car doesn't start right away. Lately when stopping for a red light or on idle this car starts shaking as if it's going to shut down but all the sudden feels like something hovers over it and it comes back to life. Last month when I was driving the car it turned off on me in the high way a few times. My suspicions would be Converter, Vacuum or the fuel pump but I might be wrong in all those. I don't want to replace my transmission unless I really have to because sometimes at the odd times I feel as if the car performance is excellent just like a brand new car. I also noticed that in good none humid or cold weather this car runs perfect and sometimes when it's the opposite the transmission doesn't kick in on time and feels like the car is breathing hard for the transmission to change gears. Feels as if the transmission has a mind of it's own it will not shift down and up on time have to either break hard or press on the gas to get a response. Kind of difficult to describe the symptoms but I hope this helps. I would really reallllllyyyyyy appreciate your help so much!! I don't have any check engine light on so it's kind of hard to diagnose on the computer and I don't just want to replace parts randomly. Would you also think that it could be a sensor thing? I have a feeling that it's just one problem that's cause this whole dilemma.

Hi Ray1982,

Your symptom is most probably related to the fuel supply. I woud suggest checking the main relay, take it out and resolder the circuit board. Check for crimped fuel lines and the fuel filter too.

When the engine is struggling for power, the trans would not work normally.

The shaking after 80 kph might or might not be related to the engine power loss so it is preferable to settle the power loss problem first.

If the shaking is only when accelerating and not while cruising, give the driveshsft inboard joints a look.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply your awesome. A couple of questions though

1. Where would the circuit board for the main relay be?

2. The car only shakes hard when it's idling (when I stopped for a red light). It's okay when I drive, but over 80kmh is when it feels like its going to explode.

3. Where are the driveshsft inboard joints located? I could have my mechanic look at those. I have a feeling it's because of that

Hi Ray1982,

The circuit board is located in the main relay located underdash above driver's left leg bolted to the side. Take it out from the housing and resolder the joints, especially the 4 points on either end in second row at centre.

Shaking at idling could be due to bad engine mounts or misfiring.

The driveshaft inboard joints are on the driveshafts part that plugs into the trans.
