Engine Performance problem

I have a 1993 Saturn SL1. The engine was rebuilt 18,000 miles ago. As I was driving down the road the car suddenly stalled. It would turn over but won't restart. After sitting for 3 1/2 hours I tried to restart and it started up again. The car only stayed running for two city blocks. I started in 24 hours later and attempted to drive it home and after 1 1/2 miles the car started sputtering and I pulled it to the side of the road, turned the engine off and attempted to start it again. It turned over but again would not start. Any ideas what could be causing this?
