1993 Chrysler Imperial

Greetings Folks!

I have my Dads 1993 Chrysler Imperial. This car was bought brand new in '93 and has 70k miles on it. It is a North Carolina car and is absolutely MINT with the exception of 1 thing.. The ABS braking system!

The power ABS is no longer working and the car is unsafe to drive. The ABS light is on. Before I drove it up to Massachusetts, it went to the dealer and they said it was fine, the brakes themselves are very good and that it will drive as if it had conventional un-powered brakes. My response was 'are you kidding?"

Anyhow, I know there was a 1996 recall for "ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT CAN EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON SEAL WEAR CAUSING PUMP-MOTOR DETERIORATION. " the consequence is "IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS, THE ABS FUNCTION COULD BE LOST AND REDUCED POWER ASSIST WOULD BE EXPERIENCED DURING VEHICLE BRAKING INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT." My guess is that Dad never had this done.

So, the question is, can this still be repaired? This car is so nice that I really want it fixed. Will dealers do this? I know it is a complex braking system with modulators and compnenets located at different locations within the braking system.

I need some advice on 1. Will chrysler still honor the recall (i doubt it but need to ask). 2. Are the parts still available? 3. can you reccomend a shop in the central mass area?
4. What is the likelyhood of this being my probelm?

Hi:
If there was a recall on the brake system, Chrysler will cover it. Just call a dealer and speak to the service writer. He /she will help.

As far as dealer where you live, I don't know the area.
