Electrical problem

I just aquired this older truck and there was harness damage under the hood on the passenger side. One of the damaged items was the harness that hooks up to the dropping resistor. I've rewired everything with exception to this due to uncertaintly. I found two wires near the resistor(green/yellow & brown/yellow). With the truck started I have 12vdc on the brown/yellow wire. I've looked in a schematic and I can't seem to find anything that shows these wire colors for the resistor...Is the 12 vdc correct? Does it matter which pin gets the 12vdc? How important is this dropping resistor? Thanks!
