Engine Mechanical problem

My car has a problem starting. I turn the key and the car doesn't even turn it on at all. About a week or so it was having trouble. It would not start right away at first I had to turn the ignition and keep it in place for a couple of seconds. But after a while I would turn the key but it wouldn't start the first time; it would kind of stall-out so I would have to push the gas pedal to make it start. Then one very hot day it just got worse I tried to start it by depressing the gas but it wouldn't start after a while it started. Then at my mother's house when I was leaving it started out a little and stall-out like usual then it just didn't start at all. I've had suggestions anywhere from fuel injection, battery, fuel filter etc. I am not car literate at all and don't know what the problem is. Can you help?
