Engine Performance problem
1991 Toyota Tercel 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 113500 miles

The problem didn't come about until 3 months after purchase. It would choke out almost like it was going to stall every time you put it into gear. I replaced the plugs&wires, cap&rotor, still nothing. the car would need to be given some gas to start (would not start on its own, as if it was flooded). Once running, it would need to be given gas to keep running otherwise it would stall out. I would have to put it into neutral every time I came to a stop... It made driving in traffic dangerous, as I was always afraid of getting rear-ended. Literally any time the car is at a stand-still and running, it would sputter out. I thought maybe it wasn't getting enough fuel, but once moving it was fine the pump came on when key was turned to ON, died about a month ago and has been sitting in my yard. I was going to sell it, but could it be something simple like a clogged cat?
Oh, and I've already tried EGR (which this car did NOT come equipped with), and the idle position sensor is fine as well. I'm all out of options... HELP!
