Noises problem
1991 Other Oldsmobile Models 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 154530 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My car makes like a grinding noise under the hood. I've tried changing the power steering pump and the water pump and it still makes the noise. It will stop when I push on the gas, but as soon as I let off the gas or touch the breaks it will start once again. I don't know what else to do. I'm running low on options. Help....

If its not coming from the AC Compressor-I would say it has to do with possibly the timing chain being loose/ stretch-the noise decrease when under acceleration and diminish without acc. Or could be the serpentine belt tensioner or the alternator bearing-

Get a stethoscope or a small garden hose and probe around the areas I've mentioned while duplicating the problem.

Remove the drive belt and start the car (only for a minute, no water pump) , see if the noise is still there, if so then it is the engine ,if not it is an accessory. Turn each thing on the front of the engine by hand to see if you can feel a bad bearing or maybe even hear it
