Engine Cooling problem

water pump extremely difficult to change. Now i have it all loose and can't remove it from car. No room between body and engine. Manuals (chiltons and motors) say nothing about clearance problems. I removed the motor mount as directed, but don't know why. Am I suppose to raise or lower the engine to get the pump out? I have been a tech for many years and never seen anything this difficult. I would have been better off at this point to have removed the engine. LOL
