1991 Chevy Beretta 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 130000 miles

i was drivin on the highway goin home, kinda noticed it wasnt runnin like it was earlier that day. i was only goin about 120kph. the i took it out of gear, the engine light came on and i shut it off and coasted to the side of the road, tried to start it back up, it wanted to start, but wouldnt, the engine sounded like it gave a couple cranks n slowly started to die out... im not familiar with this car at all, as i just bought it a couple weeks previous to this. starters still good, altinators still good... but the engine just wouldnt turn over... now i dont know if it was leakin oil or not but wen i got it the oil pan did have a huge dent in it, but the oil was always fairly good... i dont know im not really mechanically inclined very well, doubt thats enough info to get an accurate answer but ya thats all i can really say is the engine wont go, it tries... would it be due to a lack of oil? if so is it repairable or should i burn it? lol

Hi:
No, don't burn it. It sounds like either the fuel pump isn't working or a sensor is bad. Is there any way to have the computer scanned for trouble codes? Most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free, but if the car doesn't run that is out.

Can you tell me if the engine is getting spark to the plugs? Also, if there is spark, do you have anyway of checking the fuel pressure / volume?

If you have starting fluid, you could spray some in the throttle body to see if the car will start. If it starts for a few seconds, that means you are not getting fuel.

Let me know what you find, or if you have any questions.

Joe
