Engine Mechanical problem

i have a 1990 Toyota 4runner and i think it might be dying on me. i've owned this vehicle for only 3 months and it was running fine giving me no problems whatsoever. a few days ago i was driving around town and was coming to a stop sign when all of a sudden i the car shut off and i lost all brakes, even my emergency. thankfully nobody got hurt or hit! i've checked all the fluids, jumping the battery, putting gas, and just about anything else i could think of. the car doesnt even start to crank over or anything. what could possibly be wrong??? please help me, i'm a mother of three disabled kids with no other car! please help!
