Engine Performance problem
1990 Dodge Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 175,00 miles

my 1990 dodge w250 with 360 engine has died and completely stopped a few times recently. at first it will not restart when the motor turns over. if we let it set a few minutes, it will start and run again. at least it has so far. this has happened three times in the last two weeks. today when it happened, i opened the hood and poured a little gasoline in the fuel injected throttle body and it started and ran until it exhausted the fuel i had poured into it and then it died again. i changed the fuel filter today and drove it about 7 miles, shut it off, then started it and drove it home without incident. i hope this has fixed the problem, but my mechanic tells me it is unlikely to do the job. the fuel filter was difficult to blow air through by mouth after i had drained the fuel from it, but i could get some air through it. is it possible that the in tank fuel filter is shutting down due to overload from the partially plugged fuel filter? do the in tank fuel pumps have overload protection built into them?

thanks,
delblb
