Engine Performance problem

About a week ago my regal started to back fire and the exhaust started poping. I just fixed the muffler and the car got a little quieter but it still pops when i accelerate, and the engine boggs down and seems very sluggish. I also found a couple other little holes on the exhaust pipes themselves, could that be the reason that the engine is bogging sown and very suggish
