A '90 with 51,000 miles, huh? I love these granny cars. The thermostat is pretty hard to reach without moving some other stuff. It's recessed under the throttle body, which ought to come off for a proper cleaning once in a while anyway. The throttle body also has coolant connections and will require a new gasket with sealant around the water passage. Don't remove the throttle position sensor but do take off the idle air control valve and clean it as well. Make sure its pintle extends no more than 1 1/8 inch from the housing when you reinstall it on the throttle.
