Engine Mechanical problem
1989 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles

Converted cooling system last week, until then everything was fine. Been on road since 6/1 of this year, do not use AC because of gas mileage concerns, have a 9 foot cab-over camper on truck. The compressor seems to be going out, causing a lot of noise on start-up, but once on highway motor responds well. My question is seeing that I am in final stretch to get home,(about 900 miles), can I cut this belt to reduce the engine strain or does this belt run something else that is important ?
