Audi TT 2000 1.8T Manual 5speed NOT quattro 67000 miles.

Yesterday i was driving my car and as i was going up the hill the transmission stopped working, the engine was running fine. I could press the clutch and put in gears but when i would releas the clutch nothing would happen.

pressing and depressing the clutch makes an ugly noise as if there is friction. When this happened i realized the car was leaking a little oil. I did not check if the brakes oil reservoir was empty, which i believe it what powers the clutch and the clutch wasn't slipping before this happened.

Can the transmission be gone or it should more like clutch or just the oil? advice pls?
