Computer problem
2007 Other BMW Models 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 4000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a new 2007 BMW 335xi automatic. I used to own a 2002 330xi auto. Although the newer car is much more powerful overall, the gas pedal feels much softer and less responsive, especially when not in sport mode. There seems to be a 1-2 second delay off the line in auto, maybe half a second in sport. In sport it is better but still quite squishy compared to my last car. Is this normal? Have they changed it over 5 years to conserve fuel or prevent spinning the tires in snow? If I turn off the traction control will it make a difference? Also sometimes there only seems to be exhaust coming from the right tailpipe, not the left, especially when I first start the car up. Is this normal? Thanks.

As a BMW tech I can tell you that the new cars do not compare to the older ones. What you may be experiencing is considered normal operation by BMW. There is also the added issue of the forced induction in the 335 model which could be a contributing factor in your perception of this issue. You bought the car this way and if nothing has changed in it's daily operation then it is what it is. Have you compared it to another 335xi ?

Thanks for the feedback. The dealership also told me it was normal and the shop foreman drove it is well and noticed no default codes or anything abnormal. He reset the adaptations and said with an adaptive transmission if I just drive it hard for a while the delay will go away. He also said the single exhaust issue is normal and there is a flap that opens when the engine reaches a certain threshold. I have not yet driven a different 335xi but I may go back to the dealership and do so if the issue does not improve. It seems to have gotten slightly better after driving it hard for a few days but it is still there.
