Smells problem

I recently noticed that I have a strong odor in the cockpit that smells sort of like a combination of gasoline and exhaust....I used to have a mercedes that had the exact same problem and I recall it was something small, but I can't remember what it was....any suggestions on what it could be?

Is the recirculating air set to fresh? It could be the EVAP system having a dislodged hose.
