1997 BMW 740 no power to obd connector

Computer problem
1997 BMW 740 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 97500 miles

My scanner is unable to communicate with the vehicle either throught the OBD or the unerhood BMW connector

What scanner are you using?

I have a snap on Solus. This scanner work with other BMW's (1999 740il, 2001 540i, 1998 328). It powers up , but when prompted to scan for codes it tries for a few seconds and then says unable to communicate, make sure key is on.

The OBDII information does not come out of the OBDII plug if the cap for the 20 pin under hood diagnostic connector is gone or off. Reinstall the cap and try it again.
