1991 Buick Century Compressor: Replace or Remove?

Air Conditioning problem
1991 Buick Century 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 155,00 miles

On our old '91 Buick Century the air conditioning compressor has gone bad an now the pulley has seized/broken causing the surpentine belt to not work. Do I have to replace the compressor in order to make the belt workable or can you remove the compressor, and adapt a belt to work properly?

Hi:
Is the compressor at the bottom of the engine? Take a look at our "Popular Site Links" then go to "Drive Belt Routing Diagrams." Put in you car's info and tell me which diagram matches your car. If I'm correct, you should be able to remove the compressor and run the belt the same as a car without AC. However, you will need a different belt.
