my engine is a straight line 6 my model is 735i 1988 bmw having problem getting fire to distributor
car will not start it will turn and turn but never starts
its getting fuel now but im having to use a jump wire to get power in my fuel pump fuse please help if you can thanks
The E-box on the right side in the engine compartment(the black cover held down by four Phillips screws) is where the electronic control modules are and where the main and fuel pump relays are. the main relay is white and the fuel pump relay is right next to it. check these for power when you turn on the key and power out of the fuel pump relay to the pump (green wire with the purple stripe) when you are cranking it over. Also inspect the engine control module (DME) for possible water damage, if any then repost and I will guide you to someone that repairs them.
if that does not fix your problem, try replacing the crank position sensor.. I have a 90 and had problems starting it and after a lot of money spent replacing just about everything else (fuel pump, pressure regulator, rotor, plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap,etc..), ended up taking the crank sensor off a junked car,, and viola! been working fine for over a year!
