Steering problem

This mornign I got into my car and the whell was locked and the key wouldnt budge. I knwo how to unlock my steering wheel and this is not the problem. My friend i yanked on the wheel and the key and we just couldnt get it to turn. Finally I took the e brake off and began to roll backwards and the it finally turned. I drove around for a little bit thinking maybe it was the battery. When I got to work I turned the car off and tried it again and the wheel would move but the key wouldnt budge again. After a couple of minutes of messing with it the wheel locked up but it still wont turn. HELP. Should I try some WD-40 or something any help would be great

sounds like it's time for a new lock assembly
